Trai fines top 3 telecoms
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) fines Rs 3,050 crore penalty on Airtel, Vodafone, Idea networks for denying interconnection and blocking calls to Reliance Jio Infocomm’s network.
“We issued a show-cause notices to three companies for PoI (point of interconnect) blocking . They were not giving the required PoIs to the Jio network . So we are recommending penal action against these telcos,” a top official at Trai said.
Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Jio and the top three telcos in the country have been sparring over PoIs, where calls are connected from one network to the other network. Reliance Jio claims that these telcos have not provided it with enough PoIs.Which is the reason for 75% call drops in the network.
While Bharti Airtel has said that Reliance Jio is creating an unnecessary controversy to cover up inadequacies in its own service.”We are continuously increasing the PoIs provided to Reliance Jio. The pace of augmentation has been the fastest ever done by us, Further, we are in full compliance of the requirements service set by Trai,” an Airtel spokesperson said. Vodafone and Idea have not responded to this yet.
